The pine straw industry begins with a planting process called “pine plantation”, which is a management program where different classes of pine trees are planted strategically in rows . In these rows, a certain amount of space is left between each tree and each row which balances the maximum number of trees per acre, while leaving enough room for each tree to grow optimally. At a certain age— usually around 8 years old— the pine trees begins to form a canopy that prevents the sunlight from reaching the ground floor, inhibiting the growth of any vegetation. Pine trees (which are evergreens) will drop their needles twice per year. Once the trees have created a canopy to block the sunlight, there is now an ideal pine stand for harvesting straw. Swift Straw is completely vertically integrated from retail installation down to the pine fields where our employees and supply partners strategically hand bale or mechanically roll our straw. We provide three classifications of pine straw including Lob Lolly (short needle), Slash (standard) and Long Leaf (Long Needle). Combining all three classifications we have the capacity to produce and deliver several million bales on an annual basis.
Once our straw is either baled or rolled, it is loaded into one of our 53 foot tractor trailers and ready to ship. Our standard trailer holds approximately 1386 bales (22 rows of 63 bales) or 575-600 rolls. We currently deliver trailers of pine straw to a variety of customers all over the country. With several hundred tractor trailers in operation, we can distribute the product you need with unmatched speed and performance to anywhere in the country.

Swift Straw has access to a new product that adds a unique component to the look and pricing for pine straw. When the colorant is applied, it adds and maintains a beautiful color that looks as if the pine straw just fell from the tree. Not only does it look great, it helps preserve the pine straw by delaying the decomposition process. When applied to Long Leaf it will preserve the pine straw and extend the decomposition process, changing the cycle from a bi-annual cycle to an annual cycle. We highly recommend this new product and promote it as the best ground cover option that we provide. It intensifies the beauty of the pine straw and also is the most cost effective option for an annual ground cover program. Please call for more details
Our mulch colorant program has completely changed the landscaping industry regarding the annual costs associated with this process. Historically mulch must be applied once per year in order to maintain a sufficient beautification level. Mulch is measured in cubic yards and typically covers 110 square feet of ground if applied at 3 inches in depth. The average annual cost to purchase and install a cubic yard of mulch is $50 per yard. With our innovative program, we can accomplish the same result by applying our colorant to the existing mulch for a fraction of the cost to re-apply. We can even color the existing mulch twice per year and realize over an 50% annual savings for our customers.
